You Never Really Appreciate What You Get For Free Online

It’s true; you never really appreciate what you get for free online.

Sure, you download the stuff; then more often than not file it and forget it.

Different story though when you shell out hard cash; then you value your download, you savour the content, you delight in your new found discovery, you anticipate the wisdom it is about to impart.

Then nine times out of ten…

1. You discover you already know all this stuff, or
2. You realize it is total hogwash, or
3. You have to shell out again for an upsell to make it work

Now you compare it with similar free stuff you downloaded earlier and are surprised to learn there is intrinsic value attached; value you failed to spot first time around – if you even bothered to look.

Free stuff can be good if it follows these criteria…

? It emanates from a genuine source of expertise in its genre
? It does not set out to sell you something you neither need nor want
? It contains content of genuine value

Free stuff can make you money when you dispense it yourself if…

? Your offer is presented in good faith
? Your offer does not attempt to persuade the recipient to make a complementary purchase
? Your offer provides a genuine solution with no strings attached

Above all resist the temptation to infest your offer with a proliferation of thinly disguised affiliate links; they will just hack off the beneficiary.

Free stuff will build you a priceless resource if…

All you ask in return for your free stuff is an email address where you can relay a message with the download link.

Treasure your flow of freely given email addresses; compile them daily into a priceless asset; your ever-growing voluntary optin list.

Now you can think about upselling…

A Classified way to drive business to your web site

There are more than 105 million of them in the United States. Worldwide, there could be at least 250 million of them. Them, according to statistics from the Nielsen/Net Ratings service, is the number of active Web surfers. 250 million in the whole world? The figure is more than the populations of Canada, Australia, Great Britain, and a few non-English speaking countries combined. That’s a lot of them!

With so many active surfers around, you would think Webmasters and site owners have an easy time attracting them. Actually, they face an uphill battle to bring visitors and, more importantly, consumers to their Web sites. And a Web site without traffic is like a store built in the middle of the desert. You could have the greatest products and most attractive Web design around, but they’re worthless if no one visits them.

There is one way, however, to turn your Web site into an oasis of business, a way to drive as much traffic to your site as your server can handle: a classified ad.

More on that later. First, all Web builders and site owners should know the basic and time-tested ways to attract traffic to their Web site. The key to all of these methods is to attract the right Web surfers. You want what experts call “targeted visitors,” or people who are actually interested in what you’re selling. To guarantee that this happens, you should follow this checklist of Web traffic golden rules:

Step 1: Optimize your Web pages. Webmasters in the know take the time to set their meta tags. These tags, or codes, are hidden keywords in the Web page that tell search engines like Google and Yahoo exactly what your site is all about. A meta tag, for instance, could be “designer handbags,” “sporting equipment,” or whatever else you happen to be selling. These keywords tell the search engine to direct all handbag or sports shoppers to your site.

Step 2: List your site with every search engine out there. For this step, you simply need to surf over to Google, AltaVista, Yahoo, MSN, and other search engines. Click onto their customer service page, where they allow Web builders and site owners to manually submit their site addresses.

Step 3. Spice up your site with interactive features. With articles, newsletters, offers, promotions, and discounts, you give your targeted visitors a reason to stay at your site once they find it. More importantly, you give them reasons to come back and tell their friends about the site. Word of mouth is one of the best, and cheapest, forms of advertising on the planet.

Step 4. Exchange banner ads with friends and with other companies that you do business with. Banner ads are those eye-catching designs at the top and bottom of Web pages. They’re like the billboards of the Internet superhighway. But with these online billboards, a simple click transports the Web surfer directly to your Web site.

Step 5. Exchange Web links with friends and business associates. This, Webmasters and site owners, could be the most important way to drive Web traffic to your site. All of the major search engines rank sites by measuring how many links come to and leave from your Web site.

So links are a way to measure how worthwhile and how legitimate your site is. The better this measurement, the better chance your site will have to show up well in Web surfers’ searches. In other words, these links could be the difference between your site being listed on page 20 of a Google search results, or on page 1.

Building better Web links and search engine resultsthat’s where classified sites come into play. Some of the most savvy classified sites on the market now offer Web links in their ads. These links lead right to your business’ home page.

Not only are these links convenient one-click ways for more customers to reach your site. They also boost your search engine rankings.

Of course, for business owners, classified sites have so many other benefits, too.

• Unparalleled exposure. Classified sites are like online malls. Not only will you get exposure from shoppers coming specifically to find your goods. You get “spill over” attention from shoppers who came for another item but then start browsing through all of the other ads in the classified “mall.”
• A new arsenal of Web sites. Having online classified ads is like setting up multiple new Web sites across the Internet. Unlike your own original site, these classified ads come with low-cost IT support, security, and advertising.
• Incredible growth opportunities. Businesses and individuals selling on online classified sites pull in more than $1.95 billion a year, according to the statistics firm Kelsey Group. That figure does not even include money from eBay.
• Money for nothing. As valuable as classified sites are, many of the best ones charge very little or absolutely nothing to set up your ads.

Add up all of these numbers250 million active Web surfers in the world, $1.95 billion in classified sales, and $0 costand your Web business is sure to come out in the positive.

Beyond Home Security – Internet Remote Monitoring and Family Life

Defending your material possessions is nowadays a lot easier than what it used to be even just a few years ago. Technology has raised the level of protection achievable exponentially.

The use of wireless video cameras, motion detectors and video recording in combination with web based remote monitoring are definitely forcing a good number of “old school” burglars to seriously consider a career change.

A higher level of protection for your material possessions though it is not the only advantage that these latest technologies have to offer. There is another level of home security, growing along side with financial loss prevention, which can be considered even more valuable.

Imagine the convenience of being able to check what is happening on your property at any time, from wherever you are. That is exactly what you can do with an internet based home security camera system.

How many times have you found yourself in a time crunch because something in your house was in urgent need of repair and the only way to get it done was for you to be present. Think of how convenient could be being able to supervise the work from your office instead.

You could also have your housekeeping done in all tranquillity as you keep your productivity and income flowing. This would also mean that you would not have to spend your free time, working hard to keep the house clean.

Some of us have pets which are by necessity left alone in the house. Well, I am sure that if you are one concerned pet owner you would certainly feel much better if you could see how your best friend is doing, any time you whish to.

And then of course the most obvious of all supervising needs… kids.

If your kids are of young age he or she, or they, will have to be in company of a baby sitter, but even if they are not alone, I have no doubts about it because I am a parent myself, you would be able to carry through your working day in a much more relaxed manner if you were able check on them every now and then.

Not to mention of course those horrible cases of child abuse that we hear about occasionally in the news. Your cameras are running all the time and even if you are not “watching” all the time, it’s all being recorded. You could, just to be safe, go over a portion of the recorded video sometimes… being parents is hard enough without having to deal with extraordinarily challenging situations.

Imagine the typical scenario of an average middle class family where both parents have to work in order to be able to afford their somewhat comfortable life style. The children are already at the point when they don’t like to be called children anymore. You know, when the girls start using make up if you are not there and the boys don’t want to be kissed in public anymore…

I can assure you, from personal experience, when the kids are in their teens you want to be there, especially if you are not. In this particular case a remote monitoring security camera system is “The” most useful tool you may have around the house.

On a closing note security cameras with online remote monitoring gives you the opportunity to make sure everything is all right any time you whish to do so, giving you peace of mind if you have kids, pets, cleaning service, baby sitter, gardner, work done at the house… you name it. It really is an investment which increases exponentially the eventuality of a much safer future for you and your family, and that is much more precious than any material possession.

Nanny Cams & Privacy

Nanny Cams have, undeniably, a positive impact on the safety of children under the supervision of hired caregivers. And as any review of articles and news reports will show, nanny cams fulfill another important role besides the very real benefit of protecting small children: protecting parents’ peace of mind. Parental comfort level at leaving young children with a professional nanny or even a casual babysitter increases dramatically when they know the caregiver’s behavior is being monitored.

Some professional childcare services are beginning to install nanny cams. According to the web site of Tutor Time, a franchise childcare outlet, “classrooms are equipped with observation windows and security cameras.” (www.tutortime.com)

For childcare businesses like Tutor Time, the motivation for using surveillance cameras is probably mixed. Having the cameras in use is a great selling point for customer comfort, and they serve the twofold purpose of watching over the children while also protecting the company. For, just as a nanny cam can help prove misbehavior by hired help in the home, a videotape can be a powerful defense against unjust accusations of abuse leveled at professional providers.

The cameras protect Tutor Time and similar companies in two ways. Not only do they have a record of their safe and appropriate care, but management will be the first to know if one of their employees is, in any way whatsoever, behaving inappropriately – whether committing a serious crime of abusing a child, or a petty one of, say, stealing supplies.

Of course, some homeowners who install security cameras have discovered other crimes being committed – cleaning service personnel or maintenance workers caught on tape as they have stolen money or valuables. Without question, there’s a lot to be said for the safety and security factor of home security systems like nanny cams.

What about privacy issues, though? Is it an intrusion on anyone’s right to privacy to be spied on in the workplace, even if that workplace is another individual’s home? According to about.com’s childcare page (http://childcare.about.com/cs/evaluations/bb/nannycam.htm), 15 states (see list below) prohibit recording someone’s speech without his or her consent, but “using a hidden camera to record silent video” is legal in every state. And our question is, “Why not?”

Most nannies are professionally trained and licensed, and the vast majority do their job well and honorably. Many, in fact, are accustomed to being watched at work, either while providing ongoing care in the company of parents or in public when children are taken to the park or other activities. But what of the neighborhood teen who agrees to watch your five-year-old for per hour? Whether the reputation is deserved or not, teenagers are notoriously irresponsible. Doesn’t it make sense to see – even at a remove and after the fact – whether or not they’re doing their job?

The fact is, there’s a huge difference between invasive surveillance of your home by an outsider and your decision to surveille your own home to protect it from outsiders. It’s really a question of trust: I hire you to come into my home to do a particular service, whether housecleaning, caring for my child, or fixing my furnace. That’s what you’re expected to do, and that’s what I trust you to do. My home is now your workplace, no different from the 7-11 or any other business with security monitors. If you – the service provider – fulfill your part of the bargain, you shouldn’t have any objection to being watched while you do the work.

Is there, in fact, any real difference between my personal habit of watching a plumber or furnace repairman (and asking what are to him, no doubt, endless and irritating questions), and my neighbor’s decision to monitor the same work by the same worker using a camera instead?

Yes. The difference is slight, but real, but it can easily be overcome. The difference is the knowledge by the observed person that he or she is being observed. My plumber knows I’m there, watching, asking, monitoring his work, and giving him a headache; my neighbor’s housekeeper probably does not know that she’s under observation.

The easiest way to eliminate concerns about privacy is to make no secret that a video camera is in use. Post a sign, or verbally inform the visitor that for security reasons your home is protected by a security camera system. Or place cameras in a visible location where they can be seen – but not tampered with.

That solution raises the natural objection that informing people they’re being watched will put them doubly on their guard to try to avoid detection. But you might be surprised; you might find that caregivers, maintenance workers (at least from reputable companies), and housecleaners are glad, even relieved, to know that they can’t be falsely accused!

States in which it is illegal to record speech without a person’s consent: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

Poker News in Brief: September 15, 2008

Online poker Site Ultimate Bet is facing potential sanctions due to the purchase of certain software that allows backdoor access for certain players to see the hole cards of other players.

Talk about unfair advantage.

The poker software, allegedly produced by Excapsa Software, INC.had tainted code that was develop by two former employees of UltimateBet prior to it’s selling of its site to Tokwiro out of Canada.

A thorough investigation is undergoing, but since January UltimateBet has indeed concluded that the software was “unauthorized,” and did indeed give the player’s an advantage.

Obviously.

A similar incident occurred at AbsolutePoker.com, a sister company of UltimateBet.

Upon the release from the company a lawsuit has been filed totaling 75M USD, and is being filed on behalf of the players who have lost money at the site.

Nat Arem, a professional online poker player and affluent poker blogger, begs the question,” Who’s going to pay.”

And many other players are also skeptical that they’ll never see a dime of the money back.

So how did they do it you ask?

Well, aside from having the ability to see hole cards, the alleged con men also managed to bypass the security, registering their accounts as VIP professional players. This allowed them to withdraw money from their online accounts without having to go through the security measure put in place for players with standard accounts.

While the investigation is still ongoing, it’s likely that the alleged culprits will face not only civil but also criminal penalties under the purview of US regulatory bodies and statutory enforcement agencies.

Top Ten House Alarm and Home Security Devices

A man’s home is his castle, as the saying goes. But homes today don’t normally feature ramparts, drawbridges, moats and six-foot thick stone walls to keep out unwanted visitors. Today, a house alarm, and preferably a managed home security system, is needed to ensure your home’s security. Not only does installing a home security system improve the safety of your family and possessions, but it can also decrease your home insurance costs. The Top Ten House Alarm and Home Security Devices list highlights ten devices and features of home security systems that can make your house a safer place.

The Top Ten

10. Talking Devices help you to understand the status of your home and monitoring as well as program the system. Some security systems feature talking master control panels, key pads or remotes. The talking feature may not result in great conversation, but it will help you understand your system a little better.

9. Some home alarm systems include extras like Key Fobs and Remotes to control the system at a distance. Somewhat similar to a car’s key fob, home security key fobs include buttons to activate and deactivate the house alarm system. Some even include a “panic” button that activates the house alarm and alerts the proper authorities in the event of an emergency. Remote controls are similar and often larger. The features of remotes vary greatly and can include a full key pad, a talking feature and a panic button as well.

8. Yard Signs and House or Window Decals advertise your home’s protection. The Greenwich Study of Residential Security found that homes without alarms were 2.7 to 3.5 times more likely to be burglarized, and that the most effective deterrent was the alarm monitoring company’s yard sign (SIA Research Update, Security Industry Association, October 2001). Some choose to post the signs to deter possible break-ins without actually installing a home alarm system. While this effort will lower the odds of an attempted burglary, a yard sign alone cannot fully protect your home.

7. A Back-Up Power Supply is important in maintaining home security even during a power outage, when the risk of break-ins and looting is increased. Your home alarm should be effective even when your power is not. The easiest to maintain back-up power supplies use standard size batteries. Look for a model that uses rechargeable batteries to lower your maintenance costs.

6. Smoke Detectors add another layer of protection to your home, especially when they are integrated into the home alarm system. Not only do smoke detectors indicate a fire and give you time to escape safely, but when included in a home security package, they automatically notify the managing company and the fire department. Some systems even integrate the power supply to the smoke detectors. That means you don’t have to change the batteries ever!

5. Wireless Systems protect your home without adding extra cords to trip over or extensive installation of in-wall cords. In wireless house alarm systems, each sensor or keypad communicates with the master control panel via radio frequencies or existing wiring in your home. A burglar will never be able to disarm the system by snipping the wires. This ensures the system is fully integrated and monitoring all parts of your home without using up your outlets or creating an obstacle course of wires for you.

4. Extra Key Pads are also important. Exterior mounted key pads can provide secure keyless entry to your family. Some systems also offer remote control key pads which are lightweight and portable. A home alarm system that features a security code with a key pad increases the security of your home. A monitored system can also lock down entry after several repeated, failed attempts at entry which indicate a possible break-in attempt.

3. Key pads may not always be enough to keep burglars out. Sensors on Windows and Doors reduce the risk of a burglar entering undetected and are a key part of a home alarm system. Motion Detectors within the home also increase the level of security. The most sophisticated motion detectors include a feature to ignore pets’ movement to avoid constantly setting the alarm off inadvertently.

2. Installation, Monitoring, and Repair Services increase not only the level of safety but the convenience of keeping your home safe. A house alarm alone cannot notify the police or fire department in the event of an emergency. The most complete systems include buttons to notify police departments, fire departments and medical help instantly. Another advantage offered by the best monitoring companies is live customer support and full service installation and repair of the system by employees who have been background checked, licensed and drug tested to ensure your safety. Finally, some companies even offer relocation services to keep you secure even when you move.

1. The classic Master Control Panel is vital to any home alarm system. The central hub of the system, the control panel is usually wall-mounted in an easily accessible place. The panel receives information from all other sensors and key pads, computes it, and transmits relevant information to the monitoring company. If you choose to arm the system from the panel when you leave the house, the master control panel also receives the disarm code when you return home. Some can even be disarmed by telephone!

Of course, this list is not comprehensive, and the needs of every home and homeowner are different. For more tips on choosing the right home alarm system and features to protect your house, I recommend visiting alarmoneinc.com.

Networking for More Customers

I really need to find some more business somehow, and a friend of mine suggested that I try networking. I am not really sure of the most effective way to go about this though. She told me there is something called business referral networking that can really generate a lot of new business if it is done right. There is some kind of informational package you can purchase that teaches you how to do it, but I am not sure where to get it. Does anyone know more about this? I am especially interested in finding out where I can buy the course on how to do it.

I really need to generate some new business or I am going to have to consider closing my business that I started a few months back. Things just haven’t been picking up quickly enough since the economy isn’t doing so well. I might have to close up shop and try again another time. Before I give up though, I would like to try using a business broker. Can anyone tell me where I can get a business broker referral? I need to find someone really good that might be able to really help me out. I can’t afford to pay a lot though.
