Avista Capital’s Founding Partners
New York-based Avista Capital Partners is a leading private equity firm investing in the industries of growth-oriented healthcare, media, and energy. The firm was founded in 2005 by a group of former DLJ Merchant Banking Partners executives.
The firm’s current co-managing partner and current chief executive officer is Thompson Dean. Prior to establishing Avista Capital Partners, Dean had spent 10 years working for DLJ Merchant Banking Partners. This successful finance professional was a Baker Scholar during his days at the Harvard Business School.
David Burgstahler, one of DLJMB’s former key personnel, is also a co-founder of Avista Capital Partners. He currently sits as the director for some of the firm’s portfolio companies including ConvaTec, WideOpenWest, BioReliance, and more. The firm’s other co-founders are Steven Webster, Robert Cabes, David Durkin, OhSang Kwon, James Finkelstein, and Larry Pickering.
Before he helped form Avista, Robert Cabes was part of the financial staff at DLJMB Global Energy Partners and was able to work for previous investments within the energy sector. David Durkin and OhSang Kwon on the other hand had served as partners for DLJMB. James Finkelstein, who now serves as the chairman for some of Avista’s well-positioned businesses, was a former chairman at DLJMB Global Media Partners.
Larry Pickering was the chairman for DLJMB Global Healthcare Partners before he became a member of the boards of directors at Avista’s BioReliance and BSC NAMIC/VA.
