Dedicated Servers for Alien vs Predator Game Promised by Creator

The personal computer version of popular game Aliens vs Predator will reportedly have dedicated linux servers. This was announced by British-based developer Rebellion.

Rebellion Chief Executive Officer Jason Kingsley said that they are looking forward to the upcoming release of Aliens vs Predator and just like the fans, they are actively working in making sure that the game will support dedicated servers. This announcement officially quashes rumors the highly anticipated game will not support dedicated servers.

Rumors started to spread after the game’s senior producer David Brickley avoid answering the question in recent interviews. In the past he was quoted to saying that most gamers are now used to getting things for free over the years. At that time, Brickley also said that they are focusing on time and resource availability and utilizing them wisely.

The comments made by the producer became a benchmark in terms of assumptions with PC users talking about the “supposed” decision not to support dedicated servers on the game. This led to a massive online petition to the creators to do something about it.

Other game developers have committed in using dedicated servers on its upcoming games. These games are Splash Damage by Brink and DICE by Battlefield.

iD Software official John Carmack said that upcoming game Rage may not be supporting dedicated servers which spurred another fresh wave of protests from PC fans everywhere. There’s no indication if they’ll change their decision on the matter.
